ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Diljit Dosanjh was Sent to Live with Uncle without Consent
Diljit Dosanjh recalled his childhood and shed light on how his relationship with his parents was strained.
He recalled them sending him to live with his uncle in Ludhiana without consulting him about the move.
Diljit’s parents wanted a better life for him and he stated that while he loves his parents, he “lost connection” with him and everyone due to moving away at such a young age.
On Ranveer Allahbadia’s BeerBiceps podcast, Diljit said:
“I was eleven years old when I left my home and started living with my maternal uncle.
“I came to the city leaving my village behind. I shifted to Ludhiana.
“He said, ‘Send him to the city with me’ and my parents said ‘Yes, take him’. My parents did not even ask me.”
In Ludhiana, Diljit said he felt alone.
“I used to stay alone in a small room. I used to just go to school and come back, there wasn’t any TV. I had a lot of time.
“Also, we didn’t have mobile phones back then, even if I had to call home or receive a call from my parents, it cost us money.
“So I started becoming distant from my family.”
Although Diljit understood his parents’ reasons, he admitted that his connection with them “broke”.
“I respect my mother a lot. My father is a very sweet person. He did not ask me anything. He did not even ask which school I studied.
“But my connection with them broke. Not just with them, with everyone.”
The multitalented star previously penned an emotional note for his mother, saying:
“When I called home, before hanging up the call I always take blessing from my mother.
“I say I bow before you and she responds, ‘Son, always be happy’.
“Believe me, I forget every tension of my life. It feels as if I am yet again recharged with energy.
“There is so much of love in her voice. For me, my mother is before all, even God.”
On the work front, Diljit Dosanjh is gearing up for the release of Chamkila, which premieres on Netflix on April 12, 2024.
Detailing the emotional experience of filming the Punjabi folk singer’s death scene, Diljit narrated:
“We shot exactly at the place where Chamkila was killed.
“Imtiaz Sir shot exactly at the same place where he fell after being killed.
“While shooting the scene, as I fell, Tumbi (musical instrument) was in my hand, and its string struck my finger.
“While I was falling, I could see my hand and the blood falling on the floor. I could sense this is the exact spot where Chamkila’s blood was spilt.”
